During the last days of the British Raj, the relationship between a civil servant father and his son is threatened by their differing political allegiances.
The film set during the Quit India Movement, focusing on freedom fighter Ram (Dilip Kumar) who clashes with his colonial father (Chandramohan) and an ambitious policeman (Vinod) vying for his sweetheart, Sheela (Kamini Kaushal). Ram joins revolutionaries, while Sheela protects him, but is forced to marry Vinod.
